FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the permanent removal of superfluous hair. I insert a probe within the follicle that is no larger than the diameter of the hair. I then apply a minute amount of electrical energy to the bottom of the follicle, beginning the process of elimination of the hair root and hair germinating cells.
What are the different Electrolysis methods?
Electrolysis – A method first developed 150 years ago. It uses your body’s own cellular salts, water and a very low amount of direct current (DC) to cause a chemical reaction inside the hair follicle. This reaction creates a minute amount of sodium hydroxide that causes the destruction of the hair growing cells.
Thermolysis – High frequency or alternating current (AC) coagulates the tissue by creating a heating action that pushes water out of the follicles, also destroying the hair germinating cells.
The Blend – Both Electrolysis and Thermolysis are used simultaneously creating a dual action that results in the efficient elimination of cells.
What causes hair growth?
Some of the factors that may cause superfluous or unwanted hair growth: heredity, hormonal imbalances, STRESS, normal life changes, pregnancy, puberty menopause, birth control pills and glandular disturbances. Some medications such as Prednizone among others may also cause unwanted hair to grow.
Is Electrology permanent?
The FDA has specified the Needle Electrolysis remains the only method of Permanent Hair Removal. Temporary methods such as waxing, sugaring, shaving, tweezing, and chemical depilatories require frequent maintenance and can possibly result in skin irritations, ingrown hairs, hypo and/or hyper-pigmentation and scarring. Some of these methods might also result in increased hair growth.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments will vary with each individual. Deep, coarse hairs may not always be destroyed with one treatment. The breaking down of hair germinating cells may also require additional treatments. Your personal commitment, your health, as well as your skin’s reaction are also variables in the success of your treatment.
About hair growth
There is a cyclic nature to hair growth. Anagen is the growth phase, catagen is the intermediate phase and telogen is the resting phase. Each hair may be in any part of the growth cycle at any particular time. During the course of your treatment new anagen hairs as well as hairs in other phases of growth will receive treatment. However, the early anagen stage is the best time to treat growing hairs, as they are smaller, weaker and should require shorter treatment time.
Does Electrology damage the skin?
Immediately following your treatment, there may be slight redness and/or swelling which usually disappears within an hour. Occasionally, small milia or minuscule scabs may occur. Scabs are part of the normal healing process and should not cause permanent damage if they are allowed to heal naturally and the treated area is kept clean. I recommend that you should not apply cosmetics for at least 48 hours after treatment. Tanning the treated area should also be avoided. My post treatment care consists of in-office remedies and home care instructions to promote proper healing.
Is Electrology uncomfortable?
It is impossible to destroy tissue without sensation. There is a network of nerve endings surrounding each follicle. The sensation that may be felt is your assurance that the destructive process is taking place. Even though some parts of the body are more sensitive than others, with the help of the most up-to- date computerized technology, I am able to make the most minute adjustments to the treatment to satisfy just about the most sensitive clients. If necessary a topical anesthetic can be applied to the skin for numbing purposes. EMLA requires a physician’s prescription. Other types such as LMX or Betacaine do not need a prescription and are available through me.
Hours
I am available 7 days a week. As Las Vegas is a 24/7 town I keep my hours of operation flexible. I am “By Appointment Only”.
